UNO Biomechanics Research Building Gait Lab Flooring Replacement

Omaha, Nebraska

Upgrading the Foundation of Movement Science

The University of Nebraska Omaha’s Movement Analysis Core (MOVAN) Clinical Gait Lab project involved a specialized flooring replacement. Located in the Biomechanics Research Building on UNO’s Dodge Street Campus, the project scope included flooring replacement with specialized technical tiles, relocation of the harness rack system, and construction of a platform for the walkway pressure plate. Given the technical demands of the project, our team carefully coordinated the installation of the pressure plate technology while causing minimal disruption to the lab’s motion capture and force measure equipment. At the Clinical Gait Lab, clinicians are able to better understand how patients with movement-related conditions walk. During a typical assessment, patients undergo evaluations using technology such as 3D motion capture systems, pressure-sensing treadmills, EMG sensors for muscle activity recording, force platforms in the floor, and oxygen consumption testing equipment. The data from this assessment is used to identify treatment areas and develop specialized care plans to improve patients’ overall mobility.
